MANGALORE: Several parts of Mangalore city went without electricity from 10.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday following a technical snag at the Mannagudda substation here. The snag affected power supply on three major feeders covering to the Lalbagh area, the Mahatma Gandhi Road area and the Lady Hill area, according to S. Sumanth, Managing Director, Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd.

Mr. Sumanth told The Hindu here that the company used to make alternative power supply arrangement from either Kankanady or Nehru Maidan substations in such situations.

But with both these substations overloaded, the company had to go in for emergency repairs to rectify the snag. Mr. Sumanth said these problems could recur until the additional substations proposed for Mangalore city became operational.

The snag disrupted power supply to government installations including the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office located at Ashoknagar and a large number of residential areas.
