Sonia's visit

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will be addressing a public gathering at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday starting at 3 p.m. Congress workers said she will arrive at the Mangalore International Airport at 12.30 p.m., and will head directly to Chikmagalur by helicopter. After addressing a public gathering there, she will return to the city, and participate in the rally. She will leave for Delhi at 4 p.m.

Power shutdown

Due to works on the 110/33/11 K.V. Manipal Sub-station, there will not be power supply in certain areas of Udupi district on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., said a Mangalore Electricity Supply Company release. The areas that are supplied electricity from the Sub-station will be affected.

Guest faculty post

Two guest faculty posts in the Cyber Lab of the Mangalore University library are open for applications. Candidates who have a degree, or a minimum of post graduate diploma in computer applications can apply for the post, said a release. Party hopping continues

Mohan Padil, formerly a BJP Corporator from Padil, has joined the Congress party on Thursday. Mr. Padil, who had contested unsuccessfully on a Janata Dal (Secular) ticket in the recently-concluded Urban Local Body elections, had hit the headlines for having been detained by the police and questioned for his involvement in the assault on party-goers at a boarding home in Padil on July 28.
