SHIMOGA: Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa said here on Friday that the Government was committed to issue the title deeds to the slum dwellers in the State.
The Minister was speaking at a function held at the Hucharayaswamy Slum in Vinobanagar where he distributed the introductory letters to its dwellers.
He said that the Government would concede all the demands pertaining to the basic amenities in their slums in a phased manner.
He said the Government had decided to see that all the basic amenities such as water, electricity, roads, toilets were provided in all the slums.
He asked the slum dwellers to make use of the benefits being extended by the government.
Shimoga City Municipal Council president N.J. Rajasekhar who presided over the function lauded the efforts of Mr. Eshwarappa who is the local MLA in getting the basic amenities sanctioned in all the slums in the city.
He said that the process of issuing the introductory letters by the City Municipal Council to the slum dwellers had been almost completed and the remaining areas would be covered under this process soon.
Later, Mr. Eshwarappa visited the slum at Kashipur and heard the grievances of its dwellers.
The slum dwellers brought to his notice the lack of the basic amenities such as drains, roads and electricity.
They pointed out that the drain water flowed openly just adjacent to the dwellings in the adjoining Lakkappa Layout and urged the Minister to ensure that basic amenities were extended to all the slums.
Chairman of the Shimoga Urban Development Authority (SUDA) Jnaneshwar, councillors Renuka Nagaraj, Somasundaram and the District Convener of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti M. Gurumurthy were present.
