Members of the Mandya City Slum-dwellers’ Forum and Mahila Munnade took out a rally here on Thursday demanding construction of public toilets at three slums.

More than 300 residents of Nanda slum (Indira Layout), Kalappa Layout and Gaadi Karkhane slum took part in the protest.

They raised slogans against Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) president M.P. Arun Kumar and CMC Commissioner S. Prakash for not providing toilets and underground drainage system in the areas, despite several requests. They claimed that they had submitted three memorandums to the council in the last one year.

Mallige Sirimane of Mahila Munnade demanded that immediate steps also be taken to provide other basic amenities such as drinking water, electricity and roads.

Mr. Kumar, who received their memorandum, assured the protesters that their demands would be met.
