Members of the Mandya City Slum-dwellers Forum took out a rally here on Tuesday demanding title deeds for their houses.
A large number of residents of 20 slums in the city participated in the rally, which started at the Silver Jubilee Park. They later staged a demonstration outside the Karnataka Slum Development Board and raised slogans against Minister for Housing and Mandya district in charge M.H. Ambareesh and the Mandya City Municipal Council.
The protesters also demanded that the Mandya district administration provide basic amenities at slums.
At least 3,000 people were residing in the 20 slums, they said, and added that the slums lack facilities such as sanitation, power supply, drinking water and roads. The district administration had not taken any initiative to improve the conditions at slums, they added.
Later, the protesters submitted a memorandum to the State government in which they demanded title deeds and better facilities at slums.
Forum president N. Nagesh and secretary Siddaraju led the protest rally.
