GULBARGA: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that the full potential of the human resource available in the country would be realised only by undertaking large-scale skill development programmes.

On human potential

“The need of the hour is to harness the young human resource available in the country, and India, which has the largest youth force in the world, will also have the highest number of skilled youth in the days to come”, he said while laying the foundation stone for the ESIC Super-Speciality Hospital and Medical Education Complex here.

Mr. Mukherjee said the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) had been asked to create 500 million skilled personnel by 2022 under the National Skill Development Policy.

The NSDC would set up a sector skills council, and as part of a private sector initiative, 21 high-growth sectors of the economy had been identified and studies under way on ways to maximise potential.

The State governments had been asked to undertake micro-level skill mapping and gap analysis immediately, he added.
