The NSS unit and NSS programme officer R.Y. Khan of the MES's M.M. College, Sirsi, have been adjudged as the best NSS unit and NSS programme officer respectively at the national-level. They have been awarded with the Indira Gandhi NSS Award 2010-11. In all, 10 national awards were declared by the Union Ministry of Youth and Sports. The award was received in Vijnana Bhavan, New Delhi, by the college principal S.I. Bhat and the programme officer R.Y. Khan on the 42nd NSS Foundation Day and National Integration Day recently. Both the awards carried a cash prize of Rs. 70,000 for the best unit and Rs. 20,000 for the best NSS programme officer, gold and silver medals, and citation. MES Chairman Shantaram Hegde Shigehalli told presspersons on Friday that with the cash prize of Rs. 90,000 along with Rs. 10,000 contributed by the management, a fund would be created and 20 best NCC volunteers will be given awards .
