TUMKUR: Karnataka State Information Commissionarate has levied a fine of Rs. 10,000 on M. Thippesh, Commissioner of Sira City Municipal Council in Tumkur district for failing to provide information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act by an RTI activist. The official was found to be a habitual offender under the RTI Act. The Commissionarate had fined him Rs. 25,000 on April 7 for a similar lapse.

S.R. Ramesh, RTI activist, applied for information on the status of landed assets of the famous Sira Fort in Sira on August 31, 2009 and Mr. Thippesh failed to respond. Dr. Ramesh approached Siddaramaiah, Project Director, Tumkur District Urban Development Cell, as required under the law. It was also in vain.

K.A. Thippeswamy, State Information Commissioner, ordered levying Mr. Thippesh a fine of Rs. 10,000.
