Chhatrapati Shivaji's brave acts changed the course of India's history, N. Dharam Singh, MP, said here on Sunday. He was speaking at the first ‘Shivaji Jayanti' celebrations organised by the State Government.

Shivaji's bravery and strategising skills should inspire the youth of today, Mr. Singh said. Shivaji was a leader for the whole of India and his mother Jijamata instilled values in him when he was a child and prepared him for life's challenges, he added.

Universities, writers and NGOs should ensure that messages from his life reach every house, Mr. Singh said. He urged them to organise ‘Shivaji Jayanti' on a grand scale from the next year. He paid floral tributes to the Shivaji statue near the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Smarak Samiti general secretary Madanrao Biradar spoke. Rahim Khan and Bandeppa Kashempur, MLAs; Khaji Arshed Ali, MLC; Ramesh Kumar Pande, former MLA; zilla panchayat former president Muralidhar Rao Kale; former vice-president Raghunathrao Jadhav, and BJP State general secretary Raghunath Malkapure were among those present.
