Shimoga finishes in 10th position

The district has stood 10th in the second PUC examinations in the State this year, as 56.43 per cent students who appeared for the examinations have passed.

Of 18,708 students who appeared for the second year PUC examinations in the district, 10,557 students have passed. The district stood at eighth position in the State last year.

A total of 462 students in the district have passed the examinations with distinction, 4,691 have secured first class marks, 2,929 second class while 2,475 students have secured third class marks.

A total number of 9,190 students had appeared for the examination in arts stream of which 4,555 students have passed.

In Commerce stream, 4,703 students had appeared for the examination of which 3,061 students have passed.

Among 4,703 students who appeared for examination in Science stream, 2,941 students passed.

The performance of Tirthahalli taluk was impressive where pass percentage was 70.94, followed by Hosanagar taluk 64.05, Shimoga taluk 61.30, Sorab taluk 56.02, and Sagar taluk 55.58, Shikaripur taluk 44.55 while 44.05 per cent of the students who appeared for examinations in Bhadravati taluk have passed.

G.M. Vinutha of Aurobindo PU College, Javalli, was top scorer for the district with 581 marks.

She has scored 100 marks each in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Ms. Vinutha has said that it was due to the motivation andguidance of her lecturers , that she was able to secure good score.
