The District Congress Committee has suggested to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to “step down honourably” and go in for midterm polls before the former Chief Minister B.S. Yedduyrappa topples the government.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, D. Basavaraj, general secretary of the committee, said that Mr. Yeddyurappa had threatened that if Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa continued to harass legislators and others who attend the Karnataka Janata Paksha meeting, he (Mr. Yeddyurappa) would topple the government.

Mr. Shettar would soon have to face an embarrassing situation like his predecessor D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Mr. Basavaraj said.
