The Students Federation of India (SFI) has called for a bandh on February 20 and 21 against the alleged neglect of the education sector by the State and Union governments.

In a press release, SFI district president Maruti Ambiger said on the one hand, the government was extending a red carpet welcome to foreign universities and private capital in higher education, enough budgetary allocation was not being made for strengthening the sector on the other. The Kothari Commission had recommended earmarking 10 per cent of the Union Budget and 30 per cent of the State Budget and 6 per cent of the total Gross Domestic Product for education sector. But governments had never implemented these recommendations.
