BANGALORE: Minister for Housing and Muzrai S.N. Krishnaiah Setty has dismissed reports that he was under police surveillance.

He told presspersons here on Tuesday that it was only “accidental” that a policeman in plainclothes was taking photographs of him when he was on an inspection tour of a temple.

On Friday last, while Mr. Setty was on a visit to some temples in the city along with a team of journalists, a sleuth from the intelligence wing, who was there, videographed the Minister.

Mr. Setty said last Friday’s incident was an accidental one. An attempt by a policeman to videograph the interaction between Mr. Setty and journalists during a visit to a temple triggered a controversy with opposition Congress alleging that surveillance had been ordered against him and some other Ministers of the Bharatiya Janata Party Government.

Charges refuted

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and city Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari denied the allegations that the Chief Minister had ordered surveillance against some of his ministerial colleagues.

“It is baseless. No minister is under intelligence surveillance. An incident of taking videograph of Housing Minister should not be given that importance,” Mr. Setty said
