It will help preserve the rich folk heritage of the region: swamiji

Bidar: Nijagunananda Swamiji of Bailur Nishkala Mantapa has demanded that the State Government set up the proposed folk university in Basavakalyan.

“Since the State Government is seriously considering setting up the folk university, it is appropriate that the university be set up in Basavakalyan, a heritage spot,” he told presspersons in here on Tuesday.

The swamiji is here on a monthlong lecture tour.

The university would not only help preserve the rich folk heritage of the Hyderabad Karnataka region, but also lead to development of this educationally backward region, he said.

He urged the State Government to speed up development and monument preservation works in Basavakalyan.

The swamiji demanded that the State and Union government recognise Veerashaivism as a separate religion and not just a branch of Hinduism.

Zilla Basava Kendra president Basavaraj Bharashetty, kendra's working president Sharanappa Mithare and Yuva Basava Kendra president Suresh Channashetty were among those present.
