Regularisation of services triggers celebrations
Daily wage employees in government departments, boards, local bodies and corporations danced and splashed coloured powder on one another on Monday, celebrating the fulfilment of their long-pending demand for regularisation of services.
The Karnataka Daily Wage Employees Welfare Bill 2012 was passed during the winter session of the State legislature in Belgaum on December 13. They took Chandrashekar Hiremath, who played a pivotal role in forcing the State government to concede the demand by launching a sustained struggle in 2005, in a flower-decked open jeep from his residence in Jagat locality to the Deputy Commissioner’s office here. The workers raised slogans praising Jagadish Shettar’s government for conceding their demand.
Later, addressing a gathering of daily wage workers at the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, speakers, including the former Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader S.K. Kanta, head of Sulpul Math Mahanta Shivacharyaru, Siddalinga Shivacharyaru of Mugalnagaon and Siddamalla Shivacharyaru of Chinchansur, praised Mr. Hiremath for successfully leading the agitation.
