Citizens who wanted to pay their electricity bills online got a mild jolt on Saturday when they couldn’t, thanks to technical snag in Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom).

P.S. Vaidyanathan, a senior citizen, told The Hindu when he tried to pay his bill online, it reported an error. “I contacted the local Bescom office and was told there was some problem with the server.”

A resident of Jal Vayu Vihar said though he had paid last month’s bill online, this month’s bill showed arrears. “Several other residents have encountered similar problems.”

Bescom Managing Director P. Manivannan said there were some problems as the utility was migrating from one server to another. “Of the 76 lakh consumers, around 7 per cent pay their bills either through BangaloreOne or online through ECS. These problems occur since migration is happening. Citizens may pay their bills and the excess will be adjusted in the next month’s bill.” He said those with billing problems may contact the Bescom helpline on 080- 22873333.
