Dastagir Sherriff (70), accused in a dowry harassment case, died at his residence on Tuesday morning soon after returning from the Yelahanka New Town police station where he was questioned by the police. His relatives alleged police torture though no complaint was filed.

Sources in the police station said his daughter-in-law Zarina had returned to her mother's house complaining of torture by her husband Mehboob and Sherriff. She had filed a case of dowry harassment against the accused and the police had questioned Sherriff at the station.

The police picked up Sherriff on Sunday and released him on Tuesday, a relative told presspersons. The police denied the relative's allegation.
