The Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association is holding a State-level convention of elected representatives of the association and a seminar on “Sakala”, here on Saturday. Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate the event. Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa will preside over the function to be held at the Banquet Hall in the Vidhana Soudha.

The afternoon session will have a seminar, “People-friendly governance and effective implementation of Sakala programme”, which will be inaugurated by Chief Secretary S.V. Ranganath.

While Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, Bharatlal Meena, will speak on “Right to Information Act – Pros and cons”, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms, Shalini Rajneesh, will speak on “Implementation of Sakala programme”.

Commissioner of Excise Department will deliver a talk on “People-friendly governance”.

Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association president L. Bhyrappa told presspersons here on Thursday that 18 government departments have been brought under the “Sakala” programme and it is benefitting people at the village, taluk and district levels.

“Government employees are striving for the success of the programme, despite there being a shortage of manpower. Over 1.20 lakh posts across the State are vacant,” he said.
