GULBARGA: Vice-Chancellor of the Gulbarga University B.G. Mulimani on Sunday stressed the importance of research in the academic career of an individual.

He was speaking after releasing the book “Dalita Samskritika Loka” written by journalist Shivaram Asunde, here.

Mr. Mulimani said he was happy that the thesis for which Mr. Asunde was conferred a Ph.D. by the Gulbarga University was being released in the book form. He said that a successful research scholar was one who would choose the right subject and the right guide. The subject should be challenging, and must require hard work. Only then, the researcher’s work would benefit society, he said.

Mr. Mulimani said that Mr. Asunde’s thesis was a study of the cultural world of Dalits in comparison with the cultural background and practices of other communities. He commended the author for discussing several issues and quoting relevant material to substantiate his arguments.

The book has been published by Bangalore-based K.S. Muddappa Memorial Trust.

Poet and the former head of the Hindi Department in the university Kashinath Ambalgi presided over function. Venkatagiri Dalawai of Basaveshwar College in Bagalkot highlighted the various issues discussed in the book.

M. Byre Gowda of the Trust spoke.
