MANGALORE: Seer of Shiroor Math Lakshmivara Tirtha, who will ascend the Paryaya Peetha of Krishna Math/Temple in Udupi on January 18, has said that he will reduce the fee for all sevas during his paryaya period.
Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that all sevas to Lord Krishna would be cheaper by 20 to 30 per cent.
He said that it was his intention to ensure that all sevas to Sri Krishna were within the reach of every devotee.
Accordingly, a devotee wanting to offer ‘saptotsava seva’ to Lord Krishna will have to pay Rs. 1.25 lakh against the present charge of Rs 1.75 lakh. Agreeing that it was not possible for all devotees to view the puja offered to Lord Krishna, the swamiji said he would install large screens at vantage points on the temple/math premises so that devotees could view it. The ‘Navagraha Gudi’ set up during his second paryaya term would be renovated and recast in granite. “Rituals of Brahmakalashotsava will be performed after the renovation work is completed,” he said.
Another scheme mooted is to ensure total silence in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. “Devotees who come to the temple want a serene atmosphere to communicate with the deity” and steps will be taken to ensure this, he said.
The car street at Udupi will be made a vehicle-free zone, he added. Daily cultural activities at the Rajangana will be the order of the day.
Likewise, the daily ‘Annasantharpane’ (mass feeding) of devotees — from 11.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. — would also be a regular feature over the next two years.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala D. Veerendra Heggade would be felicitated at the paryaya darbar, he said. Meanwhile, the seer will be given a civic reception at the Town Hall here on Thursday.
