The second batch of six elephants that will participate in Mysore Dasara and accompany Balarama in the procession, arrived to a quiet welcome here on Thursday.
The second batch has Vikrama ( 40) from the Dubare elephant camp. He has participated in Dasara eight times. He measures 2.6 m in height and weighs 3,800 kg.
Harsha (46), also from Dubare, is a veteran as far as Dasara events are concerned having participated in it 10 times. Reckoned to be a powerful tusker, he measures 2.55 m in height and weighs 3,150 kg.
Kaveri (34) is a novice as far as Mysore Dasara is concerned. Coming from Dubare, she was caught in an operation in January 2009 at Somwarpet and has participated in Dasara only twice. But Kanti, another elephant from Bandipur elephant camp, is 72 years old and has participated in Dasara nine times.
She was trapped in the Khedda operations in Kakanakote in 1968 and temperamentally is quiet and subdued without any tinge of aggression, according to Forest Department officials.
Jaithra (41), also from Bandipur camp, measures 2.52 m in height and weighs 3,462 kg. Making a debut in Mysore Dasara is Gopalaswamy from Titimati elephant camp. He was trapped near Yethuru in Hassan district during the 2009 operations. . He is the tallest of the lot measuring 2.62 m in height.
