The State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday filed an appeal in the Karnataka High Court against a single judge order directing it to commence from December 10 the process of holding elections to local bodies in the State.

The single judge had on Friday disposed of petitions by several persons challenging the Ordinance promulgated by the Government on the reservation of seats.

The single judge had asked the petitioners to give representation to the Government about any grievance they had about the reservation. The Government, in turn, was asked to look into the issue and take a decision as per the law. The single judge had also asked the SEC to complete the process of holding elections by January 6, 2011.

Aggrieved by the time-frame set out by the single judge, the SEC on Saturday filed the appeal. It said it wanted to announce the calendar of events on November 22.
