Bangalore: Union Ministry for Health and Family Welfare has appointed a search committee to select a new director for the prestigious National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad said the appointment of the new director would be made after receiving a report from the committee. He said he would be visiting NIMHANS in January.

The term of the present director D. Nagaraja, who is on an extension, ends on January 30.

Sources in NIMHANS said that with the selection initiated barely a month before the end of the incumbent director’s term, the new director’s selection cannot be completed before January 30. “The process should have been initiated at least six months ago,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Registrar of NIMHANS M.V. Savitri, who was abruptly moved out of her post, has been reinstated.
