The Commissionerate of Customs and Central Excise, Goa will step up the surveillance across Goa’s 105-km coastline in its bid to tackle the concern over gold smuggling through sea.

Commissioner V.P.C. Rao, Central Excise and Customs, Goa said recently that while they had commissioned the first Shore Guard party, a speed boat patrolling across Goa’s coastline, the proposal was to set up six Shore Guard parties across the entire coastline of the State.

He also said the Customs was mulling restarting the system of surveillance on the fishing trawlers by the earlier pass-system for trawlers.

The Customs has so far this year seized over 22 kg gold worth Rs. 6.5 crore in 12 instances at Goa’s Dabolim international airport.
