CHICKBALLAPUR: To ensure that farmers make better use of various loan facilities, the State Bank of Mysore (SBM) is observing agricultural productivity month across the country.

During the month, which commenced on May 4, the SBM staff will visit villages, identify eligible farmers and provide suitable agricultural loans. Such a programme has been taken up to increase advances to the agricultural sector, the bank's Chickballapur branch manager K.S. Suresh said here on Monday.

Agricultural loans worth Rs. 2 crore and Kissan credit cards were disbursed to farmers at a function organised by the three branches of the SBM in Chickballapur on Monday.

Meanwhile, in accordance with a novel concept devised by the NABARD, four farmers' clubs, sponsored by the SBM were also inaugurated on the occasion by the bank's Deputy General Manager T.S. Sathyanarayana.

Mr. Suresh told The Hindu that the bank would strive for the overall development of the four villages through the farmers' clubs.
