Officials accused of not ensuring adequate stocks

Farmers of Raichur district assured of early supply

Raichur: Members of the district unit of the Raitha_Krishi Karmikara Sanghatane has urged the district administration to initiate action for timely supply of seeds and fertilizers to farmers in the district.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner here on Friday, the sanghatane said that the farmers were busy preparing their land for kharif sowing expecting a good monsoon this year.

The farmers were in need of certified seeds and fertilizers. But the Agriculture Department had “failed” in ensuring adequate stocks of seeds and fertilizers, the sanghatane said.

To be affected

The sanghatane said that sowing would be affected if seeds and fertilizers were not supplied to the farmers immediately. The “failure” of the Agriculture Department to keep adequate stocks of seeds and fertilizers had led to the exploitation of the farmers by dealers in seeds and fertilizers, it said.

Apart from hoarding, they were selling seeds and fertilizers at higher prices. The district administration should initiate action against such dealers, it said.

Deputy Commissioner Adoni Syed Saleem, who held a meeting with the members of the sanghatane, promised them that action would be taken to supply seeds and fertilizers to farmers of the district at the earliest.
