BELLARY: The district unit of Raitha Krishikarmikara Sanghatane (KRS) has criticised the State Government for its alleged lack of concern for the farming community, which, it said, had resulted in a series of farmers’ suicides in the State.

President of KRS A. Devadas in a press release issued here on Saturday, demanded that the State Government pay compensation to the bereaved families besides ordering an inquiry into the suicides.

He also urged the Government to take action against the erring dealers and officials who had supported them.

Mr. Devdas sought to know from the Chief Minister, B.S. Yeddyurappa, the reason the Government was unable to ensure adequate distribution of fertilizers if there was no shortage, as claimed by him earlier.

He criticised Mr. Yeddyurappa for changing his stand later and blaming the Union Government for the shortage.
