The Karnataka Rajya Kabbu Belagarara Sangha has threatened to launch a State-wide agitation if the State government failed to declare Rs. 4,000 per tonne as the price for sugarcane before October 31.

In a press release issued here on Monday, the sangha said the government had adopting ‘delaying tactics’ on fixing the final price for sugarcane, even as crushing operations in mills in the southern parts of the State had commenced.

Sugar mills in north Karnataka were ready to commence crushing operations, it said. Yet, the government was delaying to announce final price for the sugarcane, it added.

The sangha demanded the government fix Rs. 50 per litre of ethanol produced in sugar mills and promote the use of ethanol-blended petrol/diesel in automobiles.
