The sand mining in Kodagu district, involving those who had concluded recently and the ongoing ones would be extended till March 31, 2011, Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwatha Narayana Gowda has said.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by him to meet the demands of the construction industry in the district, an official release said here on Thursday. A decision was taken as the new sand mining policy of the State Government had not emerged.

Mr. Gowda asked the officials of the Department of Mines and Geology here to apply to the State Government to seek renewal of the licences of the people involved in mining. Those who had applied for a new mining lease would have to obtain the NoC from the respective tahsildars in taluks, he said.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Madikeri K.S. Anand, Assistant Commissioner M.R. Ravi, Deputy Superintendent of Police Madikeri J.D. Prakash, and Regional Transport Officer Mohammad Habeebulla Khan, were present.
