Shri Mahant Swamiji of Vijay Mahantesh Math in Ilkal of Bagalkot district has been honoured with “Samyama Award” instituted by the Karnataka State Temperance Board.
Board Secretary H.B. Dinesh, and Deputy Director of Information Department of Belgaum Basavaraj Kambi were present at the presentation ceremony.
Board Chairman Sachchidananda Hegde, who presented the award to the swamiji at the math on Wednesday, said the award was presented to the seer in recognition of his service to humanity.
The swamiji had been working for the cause of de-addiction all in north Karnataka region.
The swamiji had organised 480 de-addiction camps during which 40,000 individuals addicted to liquor and other intoxications were freed of their bad habits.
Mr. Hegde said many seers had joined hands with the board in making its de-addiction campaign a success.
