The long-pending demand for running the Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express from Bangalore to Delhi via Hubli, Dharwad, and Belgaum is likely to be fulfilled after Deepavali.

Minister of State for Railway K.H. Muniyappa gave this promise during a function here on Saturday.

Responding to a plea by Pralhad Joshi, MP, who questioned the rationale behind running the train via Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Muniyappa said special trains would be run to address the problem till Deepavali festival. “I promise you that after Deepavali, it will run via Hubli-Dharwad and Belgaum daily,” he said.

The Minister directed officials to take steps to withdraw criminal cases filed against activists who had earlier taken part in agitations demanding separate railway zone for Karnataka nearly a decade ago.
