The Hubli taluk Kannda Sahitya Parishat, which recently conducted the second taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, has saved over Rs. 70,000 and plans to utilise the same for conducting a workshop and other Kannada-related activities.
Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, president of the parishat K.S. Kaujalagi, president of the district unit Lingaraj Angadi and executive committee member M.A. Subramanya gave details of the expenses incurred during the sammelan, which drew appreciation from different quarters for being different from the normal literary conventions.
Prof. Kaujalagi said the taluk unit had received funds of Rs. 1 lakh in two instalments and had mobilised funds to the tune of Rs. 1.25 lakh from philanthropists and Kananda lovers in the form of advertisements and donations.
He gave the list of expenses and said they were able to save Rs. 70,350 of the total funds.
He said they had planned to conduct the literary convention in a unique manner, by inviting only literary enthusiasts. In order to ensure that politics and literature were not mixed, political leaders were not invited on stage during the event.
Prof. Kaujalagi, however, mentioned that politicians were part of the event as they extended financial assistance for organising it.
Mr. Subramanya said the remaining amount would be utilised for conducting a Kannada workshop. He clarified that they were yet to work out an action plan for the same.
Expressing happiness over the parishat maintaining transparency in its activities, Prof. Angadi said except Dharwad taluk unit, the other taluk units that recently conducted taluk-level literary conventions had submitted their accounts. He expressed displeasure over the Dharwad taluk unit for failing to furnish accounts.
Prof. Angadi said the district unit had plans to construct a Sabha Bhavan in Dharwad at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh and had mobilised funds of Rs.15 lakh.
