Many licences for mining were issued during the Congress rule: Bangarappa

MYSORE: Former Chief Minister and State unit president of the Samajwadi Party S. Bangarappa on Wednesday threatened to expose the Congress for its "doublespeak" on the mining scandal and said many licences for mining were issued during its rule.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Bangarappa said mining licences were issued without any restriction even when the previous coalition Government led by the Congress ruled the State and now that party was making a hue and cry over the issue.

"The Samajawadi Party has details pertaining to it and they will be made public before the by-election to the Assembly from the Chamundeshwari constituency," he added.

He questioned the integrity of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which projected itself as a party with a difference, and said the suspension of BJP MLC Janardhan Reddy for raking up the issue proved that it only wanted to be in power. Mr. Bangarappa said the UPA Government had "failed" on all fronts, and hence, the Left parties should reconsider their views and withdraw support.

He criticised the Centre for its "step-motherly" attitude towards the State in providing assistance for relief work in flood and drought-hit areas.
