Environmentalist Salumarada Thimmakka was on Sunday honoured with the SEVAK (Society for Establishing Vishwa as A Kutumbha) award of the year.

The felicitation was held to mark World Family Day 2012 organised by SEVAK in recognition of Ms. Thimmakka’s contribution to society.

Music director V.K. Shanmuganathan was presented Sevak Kala Puraskar 2012.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Sonia Narang inaugurated a walkathon where many students, dignitaries and sevaks participated in the event.

A street play, Green Stage, to spread traffic awareness, was staged. Various entertainment programmes, including a music competition, a ballet dance, and a special dance performance by students of V-FEEL School, were presented at the function.

Ms. Thimakka was given a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. The government was urged to increase her pension amount from Rs. 400 per month.

Fr. Ronnie Prabhu S.J. of inter-religious harmony movement, Guruji Acharya Vinay Vinekar, founder, SEVAK, IUC and Aadhara, Ramalinga Reddy, MLA, Gangambike Mallikarjun, corporator, Jayanagar, S.B. Mallikarjun, U.B. Venkatesh, and Arunkumar R., social workers, were present.
