Urban Development Minister S. Suresh Kumar said on Tuesday said that online applications would be received for Sakala service from June.

Speaking to mediapersons after an interaction with residents' welfare associations in the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike jurisdiction and individuals, he said that even disposal of applications would be within the stipulated period. The Minister said that obtaining Sakala applications was free.

However, Principal Secretary, Department of Personnel and Administration Reforms, Shalini Rajneesh said that the fee fixed by the departments concerned under the relevant rules had to be paid by the applicants. Observing that there was demand for inclusion of change of khata in the list of services, the Minister said a decision would be taken after discussing it with the BBMP. The BBMP was offering only five services and it would be increased. Members of the public could call 080-44554455 for any information such as delay in disposing of applications.

When his attention was drawn to the anomaly that the police department took 90 days for completing verification of those who apply for passports, whereas the passport authorities themselves take only 30 days for issuing it, Ms. Rajneesh said that it would be set right at the earliest.
