A rare treat awaits film-goers as Sahamatha Film Society is back with another film festival, featuring 15 films over five days from February 6 at SDM College for Business Management here.
The films to be screened include Mother India (Hindi) directed by Mehboob Khan and featuring Nargis and Sunil Dutt, Maa Bhoomi (Telugu) directed by Gautam Ghose, Abachurina Post Office (Kannada) directed by N. Laxminarayan and Dahan (Bengali) directed by Rituparno Ghosh. A press release issued by the society here on Friday said that the festival was being organised to mark 100 years of Indian cinema. The films had been selected by a panel headed by Mangalore-based film-maker and director Sadananda Suvarna of Guddeda Bhoota serial fame. Each screening would be followed by a discussion. The festival would be inaugurated by director B. Suresh of Puttakkana Highway fame. His film Artha featuring Rangayana Raghu and Megha Nadiger would also be screened. The theme of the festival was “Understanding Indian culture and communities through films”, the release added.
