DHARWAD: Members of the Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank SC/ST Employees’ Association staged a token dharna and hunger strike in front of the head office of the bank here on Monday to press for its various demands.
The dharna was in response to the nationwide call given by the All India Grameen Banks Scheduled Castes and Schedule Tribes Employees Welfare Association to protest against the anomalies existing in the regional rural banks with regard to implementation of the directives of the Union Government on the rights of SC, ST employees.
The SC, ST employees of the bank, led by Basavaraj Holkar, participated in the dharna and raised slogans seeking proper implementation of the directives issued by the Union Government.
Addressing the protestors, Mr. Holkar said that the rural banks were not following the orders of the Government on maintaining the roster system. Also, steps were not being taken to fill the backlog vacancies.
The protestors then submitted a memorandum addressed to the chairman of the bank.
The memorandum contains several demands, including uniform reservation policy in all regional rural banks, percentage of reservation to be fixed on the basis of regional percentage applicable to States and pre-promotion training to all cadres.
