Rs. 7.63 crore aid given to 5,224 girls in Gadag

GADAG: Kanwar Pal, Principal Secretary, Department of Forests, Environment and Ecology, has said that rules should not hamper implementation of development projects and welfare schemes.

Chairing a review meeting on development works at the Gagag Zilla Panchayat auditorium on Tuesday, he said that officials should function in such a way that rules did not hamper implementation of welfare schemes and projects.

Mr. Kanwar Pal said that the aim of the government schemes was welfare of the people and the officials should ensure this. They should also ensure that there was no scope for exploitation and people were taken into confidence while implementing projects.

He said that it was the responsibility of the officials to inform people about the need for making changes or modifications in the schemes and projects for their effective implementation. Officials of the Department of Women and Child Development said that an assistance of Rs. 7.63 crore was extended to 5,224 girls under the “Bhagyalaxmi” scheme and 3,809 insurance bonds had been disbursed.

They said that the department had set a target of reaching 5,386 children during the current financial year.

Reviewing the progress achieved in watershed development and minor irrigation works, Mr. Kanwar Pal directed the officials to focus on rainwater harvesting. Zilla panchayat president Ningappa Kengar, vice-president Renuka Basavaradder, and Chief Executive Officer B.F. Patil were among those present at the review meeting.
