Former CMC president seeks probe into the matter

M.G. Thippeswamy, who was the president of the erstwhile city municipal council, has alleged that corruption is rampant in both the city corporation and the Davangere Urban Development Authority (DUDA).

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Thippeswamy said that the DUDA had approved 73 layouts, and the city corporation had given 1,000 door numbers without verifying whether the layouts had been formed in accordance with government rules. A minimum of 15 per cent of the layout area should be kept aside for parks and civic amenities. However, except in one or two layouts, the developers had not provided space for parks and civic amenities, he charged and wondered how such layouts could be approved by the DUDA and how the city corporation gave door numbers to 1,000 houses.

Mr. Thippeswamy said that a meeting of the planning and development committee convened by Bhimappa, Commissioner of the city corporation, on November 19, was illegal because the authorities had not served the mandatory seven-day notice for it. He urged the government to order a probe into the alleged irregularities in this regard.
