The Karnataka State Information Commission will extensively use technology to process complaints filed by RTI applicants.
“Technology will be used at several stages while processing the complaints filed in the commission. But people will notice its usage at two important levels, one is when SMS is sent to them giving update about the status of their application and second is when cases are heard through videoconferencing”, State Information Commissioner J.S. Virupakshaiah told presspersons here on Saturday. “From now on, RTI applicants who complain to the commission will get SMS updates on the progress of their application. They will also be sent dates of hearing and other details. All the applicants need to do is to send an SMS to 9212357123 seeking an update on their complaint, Mr. Virupakshaiah said. Regular feedback about the complaints to the applicants will help the commission build rapport with the public and increase confidence of the common people in the Commission. Secondly, there are over 14,000 cases pending before the commission relating to violation of RTI Act provisions. These are heard at Bangalore and at the district headquarters. For speedy disposal of these cases, the commission plans to hold hearings through videoconferencing, Mr. Virupakshaiah said.
