Allocation for panchayat institutions up by 39 per cent

The State Government has approved an action plan of Rs. 751.94 crore for the panchayat raj institutions in Gulbarga district for the year 2011-12.

The allocation is 39.81 per cent more than that of the previous year.

Zilla panchayat president Shivaprabhu Patil, who presided over the first general body meeting after the formation of the new zilla panchayat after elections, said the increase in allocation was due to the intervention of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

Chief Executive Officer of the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat Salma Fahim intimated that a sum of Rs. 206.05 crore had been allocated to the plan sector and Rs. 545.89 crore allocated for the non-plan sector.

For the first time in the State, the Audience Response System was introduced in the zilla panchayat. This system enables the members to indicate their preference electronically while voting and while fixing priorities regarding action plans and other development works, all from their seats.

The Audience Response System, configured by KEONICS, provides a remote control to all members, with which they can select their preferences in a confidential manner. A demonstration on the operation of the new system was given to all the members.

Ms. Fahim took note of the complaints made by many members that the officials of the zilla panchayat Engineering and Health Departments were not available to address grievances in their constituencies, and said that henceforth, such complaints would be dealt with severely, and disciplinary action would be taken against erring officials.
