This year’s Kempe Gowda Jayanti will be bigger and better, at least going by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s plans. The cash-strapped BBMP will be spending Rs. 6 crore on the celebrations. Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy said a meeting to discuss the celebrations was held on Thursday. Most councillors unanimously agreed to a large-scale celebration. “The Rs. 6-crore expenditure will include the Rs. 2-lakh funds that will be given to each ward to organise the events at the ward-level. We will be spending Rs. 2 crore on the main event that will be held at the BBMP head office,” he said.
