Rs. 4.08 crore allocated for rural drinking water supply schemes

Rs. 7.42 crore allocated for housing schemes
HASSAN: Hassan Zilla Panchayat president C.N. Balakrishna on Wednesday presented Rs. 462.88-crore budget for 2009-10.
Presenting the budget at the Hoysala meeting hall, he said that Rs. 140.52 crore had been allocated for plan sector and Rs. 322.36 crore for non-plan sector.
Under the plan sector, Rs. 32.05 crore has been set aside for primary and higher secondary education, Rs. 11.5 lakh for Loka Shikshana programme, Rs. 28.5 lakh for youth services and sports, Rs. 3.65 crore for medical and public health programmes, Rs. 28 lakh for promoting Indian system of medicine, Rs. 11.18 crore for family welfare programmes, Rs. 4.08 crore for rural drinking water supply schemes, Rs. 7.51 crore for social welfare programmes, Rs. 1.07 crore for special component programme, Rs. 6.38 crore for development of backward classes people, Rs. 16.15 crore for implementing Women and Child Development Department programmes, Rs. 2.04 crore for Agriculture Department programmes, Rs. 45.25 lakh for Horticulture Department schemes, Rs. 2.65 crore for Animal Husbandry department schemes, Rs. 41.2 lakh for implementing Fisheries Department schemes and Rs. 11.5 lakh for implementing Forest Department schemes.
Mr. Balakrishna said that Rs. 5.45 crore had been earmarked for rural development programmes and Rs. 17.06 crore for Panchayat Raj institutions.
A sum of Rs. 7.42 crore had been allocated for housing schemes, Rs. 10 lakh for the welfare of physically challenged and senior citizens, Rs. 9.34 crore for watershed development and Rs. 1.05 crore for minorities development.
Under the non-plan sector, Mr. Balakrishna said that Rs. 5.27 crore had been allocated for Public Works Department, Rs. 230.65 crore for general education and Rs. 21.76 crore for medical and public health programmes.
A sum of Rs. 9.52 crore has been allocated for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes welfare schemes and Rs. 6.64. crore for the Backward Classes and Minorities Department programmes.
Mr. Balakrishna said that in every scheme, one-third of the beneficiaries would be women.
An amount of Rs. 35.95 lakh has been set aside for social security and welfare programmes, Rs. 4.03 crore for raising nurseries, Rs. 1.57 crore for soil and water protection programmes, Rs. 1.89 crore for minor irrigation schemes and Rs. 15.62 crore for other rural development works.
Mr. Balakrishna said that Rs. 275.41 crore would go towards paying salary of officers and staff members of the zilla panchayat.
Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Shankaranarayana, who has been promoted to the IAS cadre, was felicitated on the occasion. Zilla panchayat vice-president Bandigowdara Rajanna and officers of various departments were present.
