Minister for Higher Education V.S. Acharya said on Thursday that the Government had allocated Rs. 3.57 crore for the providing basic facilities to the Koraga community, a Scheduled Tribe.
He was speaking after hoisting the National Flag at the Republic Day function organised by the district administration at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium here.
Dr. Acharya said Rs. 5 crore had been allotted by the Department of Social Welfare for providing basic facilities in the Schedule Castes colonies in all Assembly constituencies in the district. The Government had taken up 298 drinking water works under the Rural Drinking Water Supply scheme in the district at a cost of Rs. 5.76 crore.
For building roads in rural areas under the Chief Minister's Rural Roads Development Scheme, Rs. 1.5 crore had been allocated while Rs. 3.55 crore had been released for maintenance of roads in the district. Under the Western Ghats Development Project, Rs. 2.44 crore had been provided.
The development works estimated to be Rs. 48.20 crore in 52 villages of the district under the Suvarna Gramodaya Scheme were in final stages. An amount of Rs. 2 crore had been released for emergency works under the Natural Calamities Relief Fund in the district.
Around 260 beneficiaries had been selected under the Fishermen's Housing Scheme in the district. The subsidy given to fishermen under this scheme had been increased to Rs. 50,000. Another Rs. 7.98 crore had been provided for under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Around 18,990 beneficiaries had been identified under the Bhagyalakshmi Scheme by the Department of Women and Child Welfare. Of these , bonds had been distributed to 14,886 beneficiaries.
Around 9,889 farmers had been identified for benefits under schemes of Agriculture Department and Rs. 2.59 crore had been credited directly to their bank accounts.
