The State Government has approved Rs. 30.50 crore to take up road works under the Chief Minister's rural road development scheme for 2010-11, covering 61 non-special development plan (SDP) taluks in the State. The list of SDP and non-SDP taluks figure in the D. Nanjundappa Committee report.
The three taluks of Kodagu, Madikeri, Somwarpet and Virajpet, would get Rs. 50 lakh each, according to information gathered here by The Hindu on Saturday. Funds are being released to the zilla panchayats under 3,054 account head.
The MLAs of the respective taluks would decide and approve the type and nature of road projects in a taluk. They would be implemented by the panchayat engineering wing.
The other condition laid down while releasing the funds was that no piece work contract would be issued, but every work should be not be less than Rs. 10 lakh. Tenders must be invited to allot works. All works must be completed by 2010-11 as no work could be carried forward as ‘spill over'.
The panchayat engineering wings in the taluks should submit physical and financial reports to the Government after the completion of the road projects.
Among the districts, Uttara Kannada would get the maximum of Rs. 3.50 crore — Rs. 50 lakh for Karwar, Haliyal, Honnavara, Kumata, Mundagodu, Sirsi and Yellapura taluks. Dakshina Kannada, Chikmaglur and Shimoga districts would get Rs. 2.50 crore each.
In Dakshina Kannada, work would be taken up in five taluks of Belthangadi, Bantwal, Mangalore, Puttur and Sullia. In Shimoga, five taluks of Shimoga, Bhadravati, Hosanagara, Sagara and Teerthahalli would be covered. Works would be taken up in Chikmaglur, Koppa, Mudigere, Narasimharajapura and Sringeri taluks.
Bagalkot (Bagalkot, Jamakhandi and Mudhol), Hassan (Hassan, Alur and Sakleshpur), Bangalore Rural (Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Nelamangala), and Belgaum districts (Belgaum, Chikkodi, Khanapura), Udupi (Udupi, Karkala, Kundapura) would get Rs. 1.50 crore each.
Two taluks each in the districts of Bangalore Urban (Bangalore North and Bangalore South), Bellary (Bellary, Hospet), Davanere (Davanagere, Harihara), Dharwad (Dharwad, Hubli), Gadag (Gadag, Naragunda) and Tumkur (Tumkur, Tiptur) would get Rs. 1 crore each. One taluk each in Chamarajanagar (Yelandur), Haveri (Ranibennur), Bidar, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore, Ramanagaram, Chickballapur, and Chitradurga (taluks by the same names) would get Rs. 50 lakh each.
