The Lokayukta police have recovered Rs. 30 lakh in cash, 125 grams of gold jewellery, gold-plated watch and passbooks of fixed deposit (FD) from the Allahabad Bank account of zilla panchayat Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) V.M. Chour.

It may be noted that the house of Mr. Chour was raided by Lokayukta police on November 8, in which the sleuths had recovered over 2.06 crore worth valuables, bank accounts and other property. The sleuths had seized the bank accounts of the official as he had assets and cash disproportionate to his known source of income.

“During that raid, we had collected the keys of banks lockers. We also had some information that the erring official had kept huge amount of cash under ‘benami’ account. During the opening of the seized bank account, we recovered this huge amount of cash inside the locker of Allahabad Bank”, said Lokayukta Superintendent of Police D.S. Jagamayyanavar.

Displaying recovered cash, he told presspersons here on Tuesday that the bank locker was in the name of V.K. Kattimani, which according to him is a fake account.

He said that in the course of the investigation they had found that there was no such person by name Kattimani, and the address given to the bank was also false.

He said that since the day of the raid, the official in question was absconding and the zilla panchayat authorities had said that he was on unauthorised leave.

Mr. Jagamayyanavar said that since the Lokayukta police was still scrutinizing several other accounts, more such ‘benami’ accounts were expected to be unearthed in near future.
