BIDAR: A car in which Rs. 30 lakh was found was seized at Shivaji Chowk in Bhalki town on Tuesday. The police said the cash belonged to a contractor and brother of Prakash Khandre, the Bharatiya Janata Party nominee from Bhalki Assembly constituency.

Superintendent of Police A. Subramanyeshwara Rao said, “Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta was tipped off about cash being transported in a car and police stopped the vehicle.”

Mr. Rao said the contractor claimed that he was taking the money to deposit it in a bank, but since it was election time, “we are suspicious and have asked for the documents”. — Staff Correspondent
