Unaccounted cash of over Rs. 2.3 crore and goods worth Rs. 75.59 lakh, suspected to be used for influencing voters, have been seized in Belgaum district since the model code of conduct for the Assembly elections came into force on March 20.

This includes Rs. 10 lakh seized from a trader, Perumala Taladrai Pandiyan of Sangli, at the check-post at Sambra airport, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Munish Moudgil said here on Friday.

Mr. Moudgil said the district administration, along with the district police and the Excise Department, was working with a “zero tolerance” policy against any violation of the model code of conduct.

According to Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil, so far 46 election-related cases have been booked.
