The 12th Five-Year Plan will have a Rs. 140-crore scheme for conducting research into agricultural engineering to evolve farmer-friendly agricultural implements and machinery, according to the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Deputy Director-General (Engineering) M.M. Pandey.

He told a national meet of tractor and agricultural machinery manufacturers in Bangalore on Saturday that the scheme would be implemented jointly by the Union Department of Agricultural Co-operation and the ICAR.

Sources said under the proposed scheme, efforts would be made to involve all stakeholders, including manufacturers, agricultural universitie, expert organisations and farmers’ feedback would also be obtained while evolving designs, sources said.
