Call for suspension, transfer of officials
Condemning the alleged attack on on-duty Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel by office-bearers and members of the South Western Railway Mazdoor Union (SWRMU), RPF personnel staged a protest here on Friday.
The RPF personnel marched to the office of the Divisional Railway Manager, under the aegis of the SWR Hubli Division of the All-India RPF Association (AIRPFA), and held a dharna condemning the attack. They have sought the suspension of those involved.
The protesters complained that the some office-bearers of the SWRMU, led by its general secretary A.M. D’Cruz, staged a demonstration outside the chamber of the Chief Personnel Officer of the SWR and subsequently barged into the official chamber. On hearing the commotion, the Constable of the Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) of SWR Headquarters, C.I. Koppad, started recording the protest using his mobile phone, as per instructions of the administration. However, Mr. D’Cruz and other office-bearers including C. Murugan and Arun L.K. attacked Mr. Koppad and snatched his mobile phone. Mr. Koppad sustained injuries in the attack, the protesters said.
They alleged that subsequently, the officials threatened Inspector of SIB G. Boro of dire consequences if the RPF personnel recorded any future agitations by the union.
Mr. Koppad was treated at KIMS Hospital for injuries. He has lodged a complaint with the Keshwapur police on the case. Four months ago, in a similar incident, RPF personnel were attacked and a video camera was snatched at the office of the Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Hubli.
